As earlier announced, Hot Water Music have been spending their summer months working on new material and gearing up for their European tour with Make Do and Mend. To coincide with that European tour, Hot Water Music have declared that they will be self-releasing a two song seven inch in August. Also, the band has made the announcement that their next full length will be released by Rise Records with a target release date of spring 2012.

Avant-rock trio City of Ships have announced their much anticipated sophomore album, Minor World, which will be co-released by Translation Loss Records and Sound Study Recordings on July 19. The band is streaming a song, “Low Countries”, from the upcoming album on Brooklyn Vegan.

When listening to No Ghost for the first time, prepare for a shock to the system because this is a pretty big departure for Capsule. The band’s music is notoriously chaotic and with the songs from their previous full length and seven inches the listener was never sure what to expect. Capsule’s chaotic nature still exists within the confines of No Ghost, but this time has been nurtured and molded to also hold a larger sense of organization behind the madness.
Shore’s first release, Coup de Grace, came out last year on No Idea Records. Compared to other records that are released by the label, there was little fanfare and/or attention. Which is a shame because the album is so stunningly good. The album is quiet, loud and moving in all the right places. The music is a perfect soundtrack for that reoccurring dream where you are laying down on a glacier and just slowly drifting along the Northern Atlantic.
Hostage Calm has teamed up with Alternative Press to support the ongoing battle nationwide over same-sex marriages. Setting their focus on the upcoming New York state vote to determine whether same sex partners can legally get married, the Hartford,CT-based band is offering their full length self-titled album for free to anyone who submit an online form in support legalizing same-sex marriage to be sent to NY Senators that are on the fence with the topic.
By filling out your name and e-mail here, a pre-written e-mail in support of gay marriage will be sent directly to Senators Greg Ball, James Alesi and Roy McDonald. Hostage Calm is also selling aspecially made shirt where $1 from each sale will go to the Equality Maryland charity that is working to get same sex marriage legalized in the state.

In the years since the release of Restless Rubes (2008), Ninja Gun has gone on countless tours with the likes of Against Me!, Fake Problems and The Gaslight Anthem. Getting out of rural Georgia, must have been a heck of an experience for the band. It was also during these years that the economy was in tatters and when any hope for change has been more or less withered away. These were the harsh and troubling times that are largely reflected in Nina Gun’s new record, Roman Nose….
Chicago, IL-based Noise By Numbers has announced that they will release their second album, titled Over Leavitt on August 2, 2011 on Jump Start Records. The band features several veterans of the Chicago music scene including Dan “Vapid” Schafer (Screeching Weasel, Methadones), Jeff Dean (The Bomb, All Eyes West), Rick Uncapher (Textbook) and Jimmy Lucido (Light Fm). The band has been compared to Hüsker Dü, Naked Raygun, and The Replacements, but also creates a unique sound fully their own that manages never to stay in one place for too long. Over Leavitt will be available for pre-order starting July 1st ,and will be available on solid yellow and translucent red vinyl.
Exciting news is coming out San Francisco-based Dead To Me‘s camp this week as they announced they’ve entered the studio to start recording their third full-length on Fat Wreck Chords, and will also be releasing a tour exclusive split 7″ with Off With Their Heads and theRiverboat Gamblers. The band has made the trek out to Chicago’s Atlas Studios to record with famed punk producer Matt Allison (Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms, Less Than Jake) for their follow-up to 2009’s African Elephants. As for the split 7″, the record will feature new material from Dead To Me and Riverboat Gamblers, will be pressed on colored vinyl, and is only going to be available on their upcoming summer tour.

Not content with your festival options? Well, you now have two extra choices because Riot Fest 2011 and Riot Fest-East have announced their line ups.
The Chicago line up includes the likes of Weezer, Social Distrotion, Descendents, X, Youth of Today, Suicide Machines, Helmet, The Menzingers, Cheap Girls, The Copyrights, Chinese Telephones and about a million other bands. Riot Fest 2011 will be taking place over the weekend of October 6 – 9 in Chicago and tickets will be going on sale Friday June 24 at 9 AM Central time.
While Riot Fest-East will be a one day event on September 24th in Philadelphia, and it will be featuring a slimmed down but still impressive line up which includes the Descendents, X, Dead Milkmen, Hot Water Music, Naked Raygun, Suicide Machines, Samiam, The Menzingers, Larry and His Flask and more.
Remember the days when the word emo was associated with people like this and notwith people like this ? For those who were born too close Kurt Cobain’s suicide, this is probably a hard concept to fathom, but it used to be that way. Those days are long gone, corrupted by legions of high schoolers and the vapidness of the internet age. Stuff like fashion and trends are always silly and fickle things, but the music associated with “prehistoric emo” though, that used to be a good and honest sound. Currently, there seems to be a resurgence of bands which find their influences amongst those old emo bands. I think can say that Tallahassee’s Little League are one of those bands. Continue reading
